Layken Cohen, Gadis berusia 18 tahun dan keluarganya harus pindah ke Michigan setelah kematian ayah Lake.
Layken masih tak bisa menerima kepergian ayahnya, kepindahanya dari Texas, dan sangat iri dengan adiknya yang sangat cepat akrab sama lingkungan barunya. Tapi itu tak lama, karena dia bertemu dengan tetangganya, Will Cooper :* .
Esoknya, masih setengah ngantuk dan masih lengkap dengan piyamanya si Lake gak sengaja mengalami kecelakaan kecil, ehh ketemu si Will lagi, diajakin dia ke rumahnya, dibuatin kopi. Si Will ini keliatan banget naksirnya, selalu muncul dimanapun ada Lake. Diam diam si Lake juga mikirin si Will, apa dia single?, umur berapa dia?, kerjaanya apa?, kuliahkah? dll.
Nah, ketahuan ma ibunya Lake, diinterogasilah keduanya, grin :), tipikal mak saya :* . Nah lucunya si Lake ini dikasih nasehat, begini bunyinya :

Hahhaha ini ibu keren sekali. Aku sampai nyatet di post in kamarku hahah,,,
Yah namanya orang madly in love, jadi deh pedekate terus menerus. Will ini agak misterius, dia selalu suka bicara apapun sama si Lake, kecuali soal kedua orangtua dia. Lucu banget mereka ini interaksinya. Cinta semakin bersemi (eaaapalah) di hati Lake, dia suka humor Will, dia suka tangan mereka bergandengan saat mereka ngedate .
Walau gitu si Lake ini juga merasa gak nyaman sama perasaanya. Saat Will nyuruh dia berpuisi di depan orang-orang dia jadi gerogi, nah Will ini dengan kalem mau deh gantiin si Lake :). Dan dia berpuisi judulnya Death. Puisi si Will bikin si Lake berkaca kaca :).

I sigh as I thrust my schedule into his chest. “I’m trying to find this stupid elective but I’m lost,” I whine. “Help me!”
“Lake, no…”
“Will,” I whisper, not able to get a full breath out. “Please don’t tell me-”
“How did I not see this?” he says as he drops his hands and turns toward me. “You’re still in high school?”

Sebenernya menurut saya sih biasa aja. Hubungan Prof sama Mahasiswa, Guru sama murid. Cinta itu kan gak ngetok pintu atau izin masuk dulu saat mau masukin hati kita. Tapi ya mau bagaimana stereotip masyarakat gitu sih, jadi hal yang menurut cinta benar, bagi moral salah. Terus salah sapa dong? #Salahkan anak anak dewi cinta :p.

Colleen pinter banget cari lagu, pembukaan Chapter 4 diawali dengan petikan lagu dari Avett Brother yang benar benar menggambarkan hubungan Will dan Lake setelah mengetahui kenyataan mereka adalah guru dan murid.
Si Will ini minta ke Lake untuk gak ambil kelasnya dan menghindari dia, karena merasa hubungan mereka gak pantas!. Ngamuklah si Lake. Merasa kecewa dan sedih karena si Will mencoba menjauhinya diturutin juga tuh kemauan Will dengan pindah kelas. Tapi pilihanya tinggal Russian Lit sama Botani, si Lake milih Rusian Lit, ehhh Will nya gak setuju (maunya apa sih?) dan nyuruh si Lake tetep ambil kelas dia 
#labil lo Will.
Si Lake merasa tersiksa dan nyesel banget kenapa dia gak jadi ambil kelas Rusian Lit.nya. Liat si Will ngajar di hadapan dia bener bener menusuk hatinya, karena nyatanya cinta dia buat Will harus jadi rahasia dan dipendam sendiri. Untung ada Eddie dan Gavin deh yang selalu nemenin dan menghibur si Lake. Tapi sebenernya yang tersiksa juga bukan Lake aja, si Will juga looh.
Masalah semakin rumit setelah ibu Lake tahu kenyataanya. Will ini kasihan juga sih. Dia masih muda, yatim piatu, dan harus besarin adiknya, ya tentu dia berat ke kerjaan yang dia dapatin dengan susah. Dia juga butuh biaya buat adiknya, jadi mau gak mau si Lake harus mau antri.
“My life is nothing but responsibilities. I’m raising a child for Christ’s sake. I wouldn’t be able to put your needs first. Hell, I wouldn’t even be able to put them second. You deserve better than third.”
Sebel karena sikap ambigu Will, waktu di kelas giliran si Lake yang baca puisi, dan pemirsa, ingin tahu seperti apa bunyinya ?? Ini dia :

Demi Tuhan ngakak sejadi jadinya saya waktu kata kata asshole muncul dan tepat saat itu si Lake menatap mata Will. JLEB !! Oh ya masih ada Nick yang ngejar2 si Lake. Tambah runyam saja hubungan Lake sama si Will.
